Home Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Single and the City
Do singles events really work? What’s the success rate?

Absolutely! Since 2008, we’ve hosted thousands of in-person and virtual speed dating events, singles parties and social mixers in Austin, Texas and New York City helping singles make real connections that lead to first dates, long-term relationships, and even marriages. With a fresh mix of attendees at every event, speed dating is a fun and efficient way to meet compatible singles face-to-face.

I met my husband at one of our singles events back in 2012 — proof that these events really work! We’ve heard so many amazing success stories over the years… and those are just the ones we know about. 💕

It’s all about showing up — the more events you attend, the more likely you are to meet someone truly special. Ready to stop swiping and start connecting?

How can I contact Single and the City?

Have questions or need more details? We’re here to help!

Reach out anytime through our website’s contact form, or email us directly at support@singleandthecity.com — and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Do I have to stick to the recommended age range for events?

Our age ranges are designed to help attendees meet others in a similar life stage, which is what most guests are hoping for. If you’re just a year or two outside the range and genuinely feel you fit the vibe — go for it!

That said, we ask everyone to be mindful. Showing up significantly outside the listed age range can feel off-putting to other attendees and may lead to feedback from guests. To keep our events enjoyable and respectful for everyone, we reserve the right not to invite someone back if it becomes an issue.

Thanks for understanding and helping us create a great experience for all!

What’s the difference between a singles party and a speed dating event?

Both singles parties and speed dating events are great ways to meet other local singles, but they offer very different experiences:

Speed Dating Events are structured and time efficient. You’ll go on a series of quick, 3–5 minute “mini dates,” giving you the chance to connect one-on-one with multiple potential matches. This format is ideal for shy or introverted individuals who thrive in a more guided setting.

Singles Parties, on the other hand, are casual and unstructured social mixers. They’re perfect for outgoing singles who enjoy mingling in a relaxed environment. Icebreakers and games may be provided to help spark conversations, but ultimately, it’s up to you to approach and engage with those who catch your interest.

Whether you’re looking for a fast-paced, face-to-face dating experience or a laid-back singles mixer, we have the right event for your dating style!

What is your refund policy?

We get it — sometimes plans change! While we don’t offer refunds, we’re happy to issue a full credit toward a future event of equal value with availability as long as you email us at Support@SingleAndTheCity.com at least 24 hours before your scheduled event.

That way, you won’t miss out on the fun — just reschedule for a date that works better for you!

Is there a minimum food or drink purchase required at events?

If a food or drink minimum applies, it will always be clearly noted in the event description. That said, we kindly encourage all guests to support our amazing host venues by grabbing a bite or a drink while you’re there.

Your support helps us continue hosting events in great spaces — and don’t forget to show some love to the staff, too. A little kindness goes a long way! 🍸🍽💛

I need to arrive on time for a speed dating event?

Yes — arriving on time is essential for all speed dating events. Punctuality ensures you don’t miss any introductions and helps keep the event flowing smoothly for all participants.

Late arrivals may disrupt the format, and once the event begins, it is up to the host’s discretion whether latecomers can still join. To get the full experience and meet every potential match, we strongly recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early.

Being on time = more connections and a better chance at meeting someone special!

For Singles Parties, you have the flexibility to arrive at your leisure based on the run time of the event. However, please note that arriving at the very end of the event may mean fewer attendees compared to arriving at the beginning or middle.

Can I attend Single and the City events if I’m not single?

We have events that are platonic in addition to events for singles. If you aren’t single We offer a variety of events — from singles mixers to completely platonic gatherings like speed friending, networking nights, and yacht parties.

If you’re currently in a relationship, we kindly ask that you stick to our non-dating events. Our singles events are designed for people who are genuinely single and open to meeting someone new.

While we don’t conduct background checks or verify relationship status, we operate on the honor system and trust our guests to be respectful of that.

What should I wear to Single and the City events?

Dress codes can vary by event, but casual attire is generally fine unless otherwise noted. Be sure to check the event listing for any specific guidelines — and feel free to reach out if you’re unsure!

My go-to advice? Dress like you would for a great first date or a fun night out. You only get one chance to make a first impression, so aim to look confident, stylish, and “date-able.” 😉
